Italy  is a country consisting of a peninsula delimited by the Alps and surrounded by several islands. Italy is located in south-central Europe, and it is also considered a part of western Europe. Her capital is Rome. Due to its central geographic location in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, Italy has historically been home to myriad peoples and cultures.Today, is considered to be one of the world’s most culturally and economically advanced countries.

Four different seas surround the Italian Peninsula in the Mediterranean Sea from three sides: the Adriatic Sea in the east, the Ionian Sea in the south,  and the Ligurian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea in the west. The country is situated at the meeting point of the Eurasian Plate and the African Plate, leading to considerable seismic and volcanic activity.

Italy is well known for its cultural and environmental tourist routes and is home to 55 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the most in the world.  Rome is the 3rd most visited city in Europe. In addition, Venice and Florence are also among the world’s top 100 destinations.
